Get new.reddit (2nd gen) UI back on Reddit

Most mods and users on Reddit (including me) absolutely hate the horrendous 3rd gen Reddit. On Dec 11, 2024, they discontinued the 2nd gen Reddit because they want more people to use their mobile app. This article will show you how to get it back, so you can rest your eyes when you go to Reddit on desktop. This process is really simple.

NOTE

This process requires a Chromium based browser like Chrome, Brave, Microsoft edge as you will need to install a Chrome extension.

Before you start, you must sign in to Reddit. If you aren't, sign in or create an account here.

3. Open extensions menu

Click on the puzzle icon to open extensions.

4. Pin the extension (optional)

Find the "UI Changer for Reddit" extension, then click on the pin icon. Pinning it makes it easier to access

5. Click the extension

Click on the extension in the extensions menu or toolbar

6. Inject

After you click the extension, click "Inject 2nd generation (new.reddit.com)", it should open a new tab, wait a few seconds then it will bring you to the 2nd gen home page. If you are stuck on a grey or white screen after clicking inject, reload the page and if it still doesn't work, contact the extension developers.

7. You're finished!
